Ambassador Birol Akgün was informed that the mass grave was discovered in April 2007 during earthworks carried out in the area. Following this discovery, extensive research was conducted at the site by specialists from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The investigations concluded that the mass grave was connected to the 1918 genocide committed by Armenian armed groups against the local civilian population. As a result of the excavations, the remains of over 500 individuals of various age groups were uncovered.At the end of his visit, Ambassador Birol Akgün wrote heartfelt words in the memorial book of the Quba Genocide Memorial Complex.
