The province included regions like Askeran, Hadrut, Aghdara, Khojavand, and Shusha. However, following the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan on November 26, 1991, the administrative unit of Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Province was abolished. The cities of Stepanakert, Mardakert, and Martuni reverted to their historical names of Khankendi, Agdara, and Khojavend, respectively.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
During the First Karabakh War, Azerbaijan’s military launched a counter-offensive against Armenian aggression.
