Quba Genocide Memorial Complex The complex was erected in memory of the tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis who were killed as a result of the genocides committed on Azerbaijani lands in 1918 by the armed Bolshevik-Armenian units. In order to convey these truths to the international community, preserve the national memory of future generations of the Azerbaijani people, and perpetuate the memory of the victims of genocide, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, signed Decree No. 673 dated December 30, 2009. In accordance with this decree, the “Genocide Memorial Complex” was built in the city of Quba in 2012–2013 with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and was inaugurated on September 18, 2013 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva. The total area of the complex is 3.5 hectares
