The Azerbaijani people commemorate with deep respect and sorrow all the martyrs who fought heroically in the Second Karabakh War and sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The date of 27 September has been immortalized in our collective memory as the foundation of our determination to liberate our native lands from occupation and protect our borders from provocations. This honorable day also represents the triumph of our military and political strength, national spirit, and unity, which brought an end to Armenian rule in Karabakh.
The events of this day changed the course of unjust processes that had continued for decades and put an end to the long-standing policy of hostility and ethnic intolerance directed against our country. On that calendar day in 2020, the just cause of Azerbaijan achieved historic results, ensuring the liberation of our territories from occupation and their reunification with their rightful owners. At the same time, this decisive step laid the foundation for new political and economic processes and multilateral regional cooperation in the region.
On 2 December 2020, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree establishing 27 September as Remembrance Day in Azerbaijan. In order to honor the cherished memory of the martyrs of the Patriotic War, a nationwide one-minute moment of silence was observed at 12:00 on 27 September 2023.
This significant date is a reflection of the high appreciation given to the soldiers and officers who fought heroically in the Patriotic War and raised the tricolor Azerbaijani flag over the liberated territories.
May the souls of our brave heroes who paved the way from the skies of Karabakh to paradise rest in peace, for it was through their blood and sacrifice that the territorial integrity of our homeland was restored. These glorious heroes, who will live forever in the memory of our people, became immortal through their sacrifice for the land they defended and their noble ideals.
We bow with endless respect before the patriotism and courage of all our sons who made history.
